WORKSHOP
Can't believe it has been a month since any real progress was made, but some home projects and our annual summer vacation occupied most of my time over the last few weeks. The last few days have been pretty productive, however, and included finally getting 2 of my 4 new shop lights installed and the platform built for the DRDT-2 dimpler. Shop projects are done and now it is time to make some metal shavings!

Took a couple of hours after work tonight to hammer out the last of my workbenches. This one serves a specific purpose as a power tool station and will have my bench grinder, belt/disc sander, band saw, and drill press mounted on it. Each tool is spaced and positioned in a way to allow work with longer material without hitting a nearby tool. I'll be mounting a 2-gang outlet box to one of the legs which will allow all 4 tools to be plugged in at once with a common power cord plugged into a power source.
For airplane building purposes we have (2) EAA 1000 workbenches with leveling feet and retractable casters, the new power tool station, and shelving hung where possible for parts and supply storage. Additional workbench space is available at the miter saw station. Compressed air is supplied by Primefit lines. I do have a manifold to install below the top of one of the EAA benches. It was apparent during the construction of our new home that the electrical service the builder was provided as 'standard' for the garage was not going to be adequate for the RV-10 build. This week we had an electrician out to take care of the upgrades; this is what we did:
I've got some additional LED shop lights to install to help with lighting on the side of the shop nearest the garage door. I'm also currently working on the first of 2 EAA Chapter 1000 workbenches, plus I'll be building 2 additional workbenches along the panel wall that will double as a miter saw station. Stay tuned! |
